Staplers!

A not unimportant part of our service here is to provide staplers for your convenience when printing out all those articles and Angel class materials. Unfortunately the equipment does take a beating, and a few of our staplers have recently broken down. More are ordered and on the way!

Howard Stern on 60 Minutes

Did you see the bit on Yahoo news today about Howard Stern's appearance on 60 Minutes last night? You may not realize it, but thru the library you can get complete transcripts of many news broadcasts, including those of 60 Minutes.

On our home page (www.brockport.edu/library) click on "Finding Articles." Then click on "Lexis" from over on the right. Click the "Guided News Search" tab, then change the drop down boxes to "News Transcripts" and "All" (unless you know which channel you want.) I searched for Howard Stern, in the last week, and right at the top of the list I got was the transcript from last night's show. Here's some of the dialog...

'BRADLEY: Howard, you're sick.Mr. STERN: I'm a sick man. Ed, you don't...BRADLEY: You're sick.Mr. STERN: ...you don't understand this stuff.'

Fascinating stuff, you should read it! ;-)

9/11 information sources

An excellent place to start for information on 9/11 would be FactsOnFile, a news reference service. If you're on campus just click here. If you're off campus, click on the "Reference" link on the library page, then choose FactsOnFile.

News from the day you were born

Looking for news from the day you were born? Click on Finding Articles on our home page and in the A-Z list click on "N" to go to the New York Times Historical. It's the the NY Times going back to 1851.
The articles are scanned in so they look just like they did back then - you can limit by the day or week of your birth. Then just print them out, way easier than using the old microfilm!

Need an encyclopedia?

Click on "Reference" on the library page. You get several nice choices - Encyclopedia Britannica for general use, and then there's Gale Virtual Reference and the Oxford Reference Online, which each have a number of current dictionaries and encyclopedias.
