Library 2.0

Library 2.0? It's a term for some of the many new exciting things happening in libraries nowadays, everything from podcasts to blogs and much more. As a matter of fact, we will be searching for a new sort of position here this fall, that of an "emerging technologies" librarian, someone to focus on these sorts of opportunities to better serve you.

Picture here is "Lillian," a test of an online library chat program.

50th anniversary of the Little Rock Desegregation

Fifty years ago Little Rock High School in Arkansas was in the news as Federal troops were called in to enforce school desegregation. One great source to use in researching this event (and many others too) might be Facts on File. This source is a reference news source that goes back to the 1940s and has been online for a few years now.

Excellent, objective reporting, careful inclusion of dates, places, links to related articles etc. make this a very informative site.

(Pictured here: students watching TV at home during the time the Little Rock schools were closed during the 1957 crisis.)

How to learn more about using our resources

Curious to learn a little more about how to use our resources to do research? One way to do that is to use the links in the drop down box on the lower left of the library home page.

Where the !#&*$@!! is that article?

Don't get mad, just click on the button! If you're in Academic Search or one of our other article sites, but instead of an article, you see this button, click on it to locate the article. It may be in another online resource we have, or maybe we have it in print, and if neither works out, use "inter-library loan" to get it from another library.

(We used to have a different one, green, that said "Get Text." Same idea though...)

Campus IT HelpDesk moving to the library!

The Campus IT helpdesk is moving to the library at the end of this week, the afternoon of Friday, 9/7, at 5pm to be precise. Their phone number, 395-5151, and their email, helpdesk@brockport.edu will both remain the same.

This is intended as an opportunity to enhance the services of both the helpdesk and the library.

We're not sure if this is really how it will look Friday as they move over from Dailey Hall, but duct tape known to be a highly regarded utility tape amoung IT professionals ;-)
