Breaking glass...
Please don't be alarmed by the sounds of breaking glass - it's the construction workers as they work on the window replacement project! The current windows were 20 plus years old, and this should add to the energy efficiency of our library.(If you wondered if this was really a photo of construction here, you were right to be curious! This is a 1964 photo of construction work at Lincoln Center, obtained from our AP Multimedia Archive.)

WoW!
World of Warcraft that is ;-) For those not familiar with it, World of Warcraft is a highly popular (5 million subscribers) online game, grounded in the earlier fantasy game of Dungeons and Dragons. Father of the thesaurus?
Peter Mark Roget, pictured here, was a 19th century physician, and also the creator of the famous Roget's Thesaurus, which has been in print ever since its first publication in 1852. While there had been other thesaruses before his, Rogets was the first with widespread and lasting appeal. (Many copies of the current edition of Rogets are to be found in Drake Library.)There's a well done article on him in the Times of London. Soon to come from Oxford University Press is the Historical Dictionary of the Oxford English Dictionary. There is an article in today's Times on it, and we will be ordering it here at Drake.

Now when you enter a search in that "SearchMe" article search box on our main web page, you are searching three databases at once, a collection of thousands of journals, magazines and newspapers, going back decades, even a century or so in some cases.
