"Metropolis" - new after 83 years!

Fritz Lang's 1920s sci-fi classic "Metropolis" has experienced a marvelous resurrection; the movie was substantially edited after its release in the U.S., to the extent of cutting significant characters and scenes, but now it has been restored to the original version thanks to the discovery in 2008 in Argentina of a long lost uncut version of the film. Your blogger read about it in the English langauge edition of Der Spiegel online recently. We have a VHS copy of the edited version in our catalog, which was all there was for many years - hopefully this new uncut version will soon be available!

We have many books on film history (and science fiction) in our catalog. Article databases like Academic Search, Project Muse and Communication & Mass Media include lots of film journal literature.
