Becoming a librarian...

Many of us were at the NY Library Association conference this past week. This was a special conference, marking the 125th year of NYLA! Being around all those librarians prompts this blog to suggest how people become librarians, and what it is like to be a librarian. One answer is to go to a source like the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

Librarianship is an interesting profession in part because of the people, who come to it by many paths. Some went straight from college to a masters program in librarianship, others had varied careers in other fields and then went into librarianship. It is a fascinating field today because of the pace of change, both the tools we use and the jobs we do continue to change so rapidly!

We've seen a number of Brockport students over the years go into librarianship, maybe you could be one. If ever curious about it feel free to ask one of us about it.

And don't worry, you don't really end up going around "shushing" people! ;- )
