"How do I know who my legislator is?"

We get this question from time to time, maybe for a class assignment, or because someone wants to contact say their state assemblyman, but isn't sure who that is. The NYS Board of Elections has a useful site to help with this question, to find out who your state and federal representatives are. We have links to it in our Political Science guide too. Speaking of the legislature, pictured here is the famous "Million Dollar Staircase" in the state capitol. Several hundred stone carvers worked by hand to to finish the staircase over a 13 year period in the late 1800s. In addition to many carvings of famous people of the day, e.g. Abraham Lincoln and Susan B. Anthony, carvers were allowed to carve faces of friends, family members, other workers, people off the street...!
