Atlases, dictionaries, encyclopedias and more

Often when doing research, especially when starting, it is a good idea to look for some background information. For example one might like to find a good encyclopedia article on the subject, just to get an overview of things, to be reminded of the names of key players, dates, and so on. An atlas can be useful too, for maps of places one is researching. Our Background Information guide is a great way to get introduced to these helpful resources. In the old days like in this photo, you had to go up to a reference desk to get at these sorts of things, but we have a lot online now!
