The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has a nice history of the observance of Veterans Day, and a video on their main page of today's instance of the annual ceremony of laying a wreath at the "Tomb of the Unknowns" in Arlington National Cemetery. The library has some books about this as well, including Nicholas Best's "The Greatest Day in History: How, on the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day..." Shown here are a couple at the Tomb of the Unknowns in 1943.
